Serve® American Express® Prepaid Debit Account
Fees: After you register for a Serve Prepaid Debit Account, additional features and benefits will be available. All fee amounts will be withdrawn from your Available Funds and will be assessed as long as there is a remaining balance on your temporary Serve card, except where prohibited by law. The fee tables in the links below show you the fees that will apply to your Serve Prepaid Debit Account after registration.

The monthly fee will be charged to your Serve® American Express® Prepaid Debit Account or Serve® Bank Account at the end of every monthly statement period. You will see the monthly fee listed on your monthly statement and in your transaction history. No fee for residents of NY, TX, or VT. The Serve® Pay As You Go Visa® Prepaid Card does not have a monthly fee.
If you sign up for a Serve account online, the monthly fee will be withdrawn from your available balance within 24 hours after you successfully sign up for and fund your account.
If you sign up for Serve through Credit Karma, TaxAct, or are enrolled in Serve by a company, the monthly fee will be withdrawn from your available balance starting one calendar month after you successfully sign up or are enrolled.
If you purchase a temporary Serve card at a retail location, subject to applicable law, the monthly fee will be assessed against your temporary Serve card balance within 24 hours of purchase. No fee for residents of AR until you register your card.Fees vary by card. Please refer to the applicable fee chart for your Serve account for monthly fee information.
Please Note: If your available balance is less than your monthly fee, a partial fee will be charged until your account reaches a $0 balance. To collect the difference, we will first look to your goals and then to your subaccount(s) to charge the remainder of the fee. If you have no money available in any of these accounts, we will not charge the fee. American Express will not take your account into a negative balance as a result of this fee.

No, you cannot overdraft your Serve® American Express® Prepaid Debit Account, Serve® Pay As You Go Visa® Prepaid Card, or Serve® Bank Account. As such, there are no overdraft fees.

If you make a purchase in a currency other than U.S. dollars, a Foreign Transaction Fee will be charged on that transaction made outside the U.S. after conversion to US dollars.
For Serve® Bank Account, the Foreign Transaction Fee is 3%. For example: If you make a purchase that, after conversion from the local currency to U.S. dollars, equals $100, you will be charged a $3.00 Foreign Transaction Fee.
For Serve® Pay As You Go Visa® Prepaid Cards, the Foreign Transaction Fee is 3.5%. For example: If you make a purchase that, after conversion from the local currency to U.S. dollars, equals $100, you will be charged a $3.50 Foreign Transaction Fee. This fee is in addition to the per purchase transaction fee.
For Serve® American Express® Prepaid Debit Accounts, the Foreign Transaction Fee is 2.7%. For example: If you make a purchase that, after conversion from the local currency to U.S. dollars, equals $100, you will be charged a $2.70 Foreign Transaction Fee. -
There are several ways you can get cash and avoid the ATM withdrawal fee.
For Serve® Bank Accounts, you may withdraw money for free from over 38,000 MoneyPass® ATMs in the U.S. Transactions at non-MoneyPass® ATMs have an American Express Serve fee of up to $2.50. ATM operator fees may also apply.
For the Serve® Pay As You Go Visa® Prepaid Card, you can get cash back when shopping in a store for no additional fee. When making a purchase, tell the cashier the amount of cash back you’d like to receive The cash back amount will be added to the transaction amount and deducted from your Serve account along with the transaction amount and the cashier will provide you with the cash. There is no fee to get cash back.
For Serve® American Express® Prepaid Debit Accounts, you may withdraw money for free from over 38,000 MoneyPass® ATMs in the U.S. Transactions at non-MoneyPass® ATMs have an American Express Serve fee of up to $2.50. There is no fee in VT. ATM operator fees may also apply.
